The state government of Maryland is in a mood to make some savings by renting video slots machines for the state’s five casinos. Yes, according to the Lottery Director of the state, Stephen Martino, the state is looking forward to begin leasing video slots for the five casinos in Maryland. The state has maintained tight reins on controlling its mushrooming slot program. Maryland’s lottery has taken the responsibility to obtain and provide the video lottery terminals, which are also known as the video slot machines, to the five planned casinos in the state.
In the last year, when casinos at Oceans Downs and Perryville came into existence, Maryland spent around $99 million to buy 1,825 slot machines. Last month, the state purchased around 4,719 slot machines to fill the rooms of Arundel Mills casino, which is set to open in June. But, this time the state has decided to obtain slot machines on lease, instead of buying them. Without any doubt, the decision has been taken to bring in more flexibility and maximum returns as well. The state has obtained the machines under a five year contract, which was approved by the Board of Public Works. And, the deal was worth $168 million.
